How to calculate quantity of material for Cement Concrete 1:1.5:3(m20 concrete ratio)

QUANTITY OF CEMENT, SAND & AGGREGATE REQUIRED FOR CEMENT CONCRETE SLAB 1:1.5:3(m20 ratio)

In this article we are going to discuss the very basic and most used concept of finding the quantity of material in cement concrete of Ratio 1:1.5:3.

First understand, Why should we know this ?

# Being a Civil engineer it's significant that you should  know how to calculate the quantity of materials because we need to procure the material at site, we first check the quantity that is required to construct, apart from that it is also used for making bills of your site and also cross verification of the quality of your work.

Quantity estimation is required to predict the estimated cost of your work so that we can prepare our bid accordingly therefore it is also required in tendering work.

# If you do not belong to civil background still you should know this because whenever you are constructing your Dream Home or any other constructing activity then you have to do some prior calculations so that you can get an approx. idea of costing and Quantity that is required. These calculations will also help you to negotiate with your contractors or consultant as that time you would have some relevant research data.

Now lets understand how to Estimate the quantity quantity of material in cement concrete of Ratio 1:1.5:3.

Lets consider a slab with area 200 sqm and thickness of slab is 150mm.

Wet volume of concrete required = 200*0.15 = 30 cubic meter

As per of Ratio 1:1.5:3( 1 part of cement : 1.5 part of sand : 3 part of aggregate is required) 

Calculation of quantity:-

1) Cement :- { [1/(1+1.5+3)]x30x1.54x1440 } , = 12096Kg of cement 

Weight of one bag of cement = 50 kg

Number of bag required = 12096/50 = 242 Bags

#Density of cement = 1440kg/cubic meter

#Wet to dry volume conversion factor = 1.54

2) Sand :- { [1.5/(1+1.5+3)]x30x1.54 }, = 12.6 Cubic meter(cum)

Sand is generally measured in cubic feet(cft) = 12.6x35.31 = 444.90 cft 

3) Aggregate :- { [3/(1+1.5+3)]x30x1.54 }, = 25.2 Cubic meter(cum)

Aggregate is also measured in cubic feet = 25.2x35.31 = 889.81 cft


{Cement = 242Bags , Sand = 444.9 cft, Aggregate = 889.81 cft}
