How to estimate Quantity of cement sand and brick in Masonry work.

        QUANTITY ESTIMATION:-

In This Article we are going to Discuss about the estimation of Bricks and Mortar in         Brick masonry work:-

Let’s take an example: - We have a wall of length, Breadth and thickness is 1 meter,

        1meter and 0.3 meter respectively.

Total Volume of brickwork will be 1*1*0.3 = 0.3 cubic meter

As we all know that standard size of Brick is 0.19*0.09*0.09 meter (i.e. 190*90*90   mm)

Volume of Brick without mortar is 0.001539 cubic meter

Thickness of mortar is 10 mm hence modular size become 0.2*0.1*0.1 (i.e. 200*100*100 mm)

Volume of brick with Mortar is 0.002 cubic meter

No. of bricks required is = Volume of Brickwork/Volume of brick including Mortar

                                                       = 0.3 /0.002=150 bricks

Total volume of Brick     = 150*0.001539

                                                       = 0.2308 cubic meter.

Note:-In above we have use volume of brick with mortar rather than actual size of brick in order  to deduct the mortar quantity from brick masonry.

For Finding the Volume of Mortar we have to subtract volume of brick from Total                       brickwork volume.

Quantity of mortar required in 0.3 cubic meter brickwork = 0.3-0.2308

                                                                                                                   = 0.069 cubic meter

Now this quantity is in wet condition that means after adding of water we need 0.069 cubic meter. For finding its dry volume we need to consider 33% extra

                                                                                                                  =1.33*0.069

                                                                                                                  =0.091 cubic meter

          NOTE:-

THIS 0.091 Cubic meter is our actual Quantity of mortar that we need in dry condition.
Mortar quantity is always 30% of brickwork volume as you can see 0.091 is 30% of 0.3 so this will be your short trick to calculate quantity of mortar. Rather than doing this all long process you can simply calculate the 30% of your brickwork.
Now Further calculating the Quantity of Cement and Sand in Mortar you need to                       Consider a ratio( 1:4 or 1:6 / Cement : sand) majorly used in Brick masonry

Let’s Take another Example to calculate the Quantity of cement and sand:-

Here I am considering 1:4 (Cement: sand) for my Brick masonry work you can choose as per your specification.

Quantity of cement:- (part of cement in ratio/ total ratio)*volume of mortar

                                                   = (1/5)*0.069 =0.0138 cubic meter

Density of cement is 1440kg/cubic meter so we can simply multiply density of cement with volume to calculate cement in Kg.

                                                   = 0.0138*1440= 19.87 kg

Quantity of sand:- (part of sand in ratio/ total ratio)*volume of mortar

                                = (4/5)*0.069 = 0.0552 cubic meter / 1.94 cubic foot.

              Note:-

In calculation of Mortar and cement we have not consider wet or dry volume because we have consider this while calculating total quantity of mortar.

           Thankyou.
